Improving Performance of Maize Plants Grown under Deficit Water Stress

چکیده

In Egypt, we are under the water poverty limit. Therefore, practical solutions must be undertaken to confront scarcity, which hinders agricultural development in Egypt. For this purpose, two field trials were performed assess different irrigation intervals as main plots (irrigation every 8, 10 and 12 days), soil conditioners subplots [ without (control), biochar compost] foliar application of ascorbic acid at rates (0.0, 5.0 10.0 mM) sub-sub on maize plant performance yield. Findings showed that deficit days) caused a significant decline compared 8 days. Both improved increased yield quality plants grown conditioners, but compost was more effective than amendment regard. Also, external possessed vital role hindering hazard effect drought treatments, where its rate increased. On other hand, treatments led raise antioxidants production leaves period 40 days from sowing hinder ROS, produced due stress, while applications plant's self-production antioxidants. On contrary, studied substances cannot continue producing advanced stage growth (70 sowing).

Maize (Zea mays L.) Agro-Physiological Response to Potassium and Iron Fertilizer under Water Deficit Stress

This research was conducted to evaluate effect of potassium and iron fertilizers on agro-physiological traits affected different irrigation regime of corn in Shahryar (Tehran province, central of Iran) via a split-split plots arrangement based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications during 2015. The main plot included different irrigation regime (Normal irrigation and stop ...

Reduced crown root number improves water acquisition under water deficit stress in maize (Zea mays L.)

In this study we test the hypothesis that maize genotypes with reduced crown root number (CN) will have greater root depth and improved water acquisition from drying soil. Maize recombinant inbred lines with contrasting CN were evaluated under water stress in greenhouse mesocosms and field rainout shelters. CN varied from 25 to 62 among genotypes. Under water stress in the mesocosms, genotypes ...

Water Use Efficiency of Field-grown Maize during Moisture Stress.

Theoretical analysis of the CO(2) assimilation and water loss by single leaves suggests that the water use efficiency of C(4) species decreases as stomatal resistance increases. To confirm this hypothesis for a complete maize crop, results from computer simulations and a field experiment were compiled for varying stomatal resistances. A soil-plant-atmosphere model allowed simulations of the man...

Banding Patterns Activity of Antioxidant Enzymes and Physiological Indices in the Maize (Zea mays L.) Genotypes under Water Deficit Stress

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Various environmental stresses, especially water deficit stress have several and major effects on maize growth and production. Drought is one of the abiotic stresses that due to the great variety of rainfall conditions, it is known from Iran as the most important factor limiting the growth and production of crops. Therefore, the effect of water def...

Water-deficit stress-induced anatomical changes in higher plants.

Water is vital for plant growth and development. Water-deficit stress, permanent or temporary, limits the growth and the distribution of natural vegetation and the performance of cultivated plants more than any other environmental factors do. Although research and practices aimed at improving water-stress resistance and water-use efficiency have been carried out for many years, the mechanism in...
